Your bridal hair trial is not about practising your hairstyle.

It is where we work out what your wedding hair needs to be, how we are going to create it and what needs to happen before the wedding morning.

By the time you sit in my chair on your wedding day, I want the important decisions to have already been made.

Your hairstyle should be established. Your hair should be understood. Your veil and accessories should have been accounted for. Your timing should be clear.

Your Looks Design is where we work that out.

After more than 20 years working in hair and styling more than 500 brides, I know how much difference it makes when those decisions are made before the wedding day.

Your Looks Design Is More Than a Practice Run

There is a common idea that a bridal trial is about trying a hairstyle to see whether you like it.

For me, it is much more than that.

Your Looks Design is where I get to properly understand your hair and what we are working with.

We look at your length, density, texture, condition and natural movement.

We look at your dress, neckline, veil and accessories.

We look at the hairstyles you are drawn to and, most importantly, what you want your hair to feel like.

Then we work out what makes sense for you.

Sometimes the hairstyle you have been imagining works exactly as you pictured it.

Sometimes the shape needs adjusting.

Sometimes a change in placement, proportion or structure completely changes how the style looks on you.

You bring the inspiration. I bring the expertise to work out how to make it work.

Your Wedding Hair Should Be Decided Before the Wedding Morning

Your wedding morning is not the time to discover whether an idea works.

You should not be sitting in the chair wondering:

Will this actually suit me?

Will my hair hold it?

Do I need more length or density?

Does this work with my veil?

Do I like it from the back?

Those are decisions we can make during your Looks Design.

That gives us the opportunity to make adjustments while there is still time to do something about them.

By the wedding morning, there should be a clear plan.

Your Dress Is Part of the Decision

Your hairstyle does not exist separately from the rest of your bridal look.

The neckline, shape and back of your dress can all affect what works.

A hairstyle can look beautiful on its own and still be the wrong choice for a particular dress if it hides an important detail or changes the balance of the look.

The same applies to your veil and accessories.

This is why I want to see as much of your final bridal look as possible during your Looks Design.

We are not choosing your hair in isolation.

We are working out how everything fits together.

Your Hair Is Part of the Equation

The hairstyle you love online may have been created on completely different hair.

Different length.

Different density.

Different texture.

Different colour.

Different natural movement.

That does not mean you cannot have the look you love.

It means we need to understand how to translate it to your own hair.

If your hair is fine, we may approach the structure differently.

If you need additional length or density, extensions may be useful.

If your hair has changed since you first started planning your wedding, we work with what you have now.

The goal is never to make your hair behave like somebody else's.

It is to create the right result from your own hair.

This Is Where We Learn What Your Hair Needs

Your Looks Design also gives us information that photographs and inspiration images cannot.

We can see how your hair responds to preparation, products, structure and styling.

We can see where it has natural movement.

We can see where additional support may be needed.

And we can identify anything that needs to happen before your wedding day.

If something needs changing, we know early.

If your hair needs additional preparation, we know early.

If a particular shape does not behave as expected, we know early.

That information is valuable.

It means we are not discovering something for the first time when you are already dressed and due to leave for your ceremony.

Your Wedding Morning Timeline Starts Here

Your hair is also part of the wider morning.

There may be photographs taking place.

You may need to be dressed by a particular time.

Your veil may need to be placed after you are dressed.

You may have a ceremony or transport time that cannot move.

The amount of time your hairstyle actually takes matters.

Your Looks Design gives us a better understanding of that time, so your wedding morning can be planned around what your hair genuinely requires.

Your timeline needs to allow for what your hairstyle genuinely requires, not the other way around.

What to Bring

You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what you want.

That is part of what your Looks Design is for.

It is helpful to bring:

• Inspiration images

• Your veil

• Hair accessories

• Details or photographs of your dress

• Any extensions you already have

• Anything else you know you want incorporated

• Your wedding morning timings, if you have them

If you are choosing between two hairstyles, bring both.

If you know you want your hair down but are unsure about the exact shape, tell me.

If your hair has changed since you booked, tell me that too.

You do not need to know the solution before you arrive.

What We Do During Your Looks Design

This is where we take all the pieces and turn them into your bridal hair plan.

We establish the hairstyle.

We refine the shape and proportions.

We assess how your hair behaves.

We look at how the style works with your features, dress and overall look.

We work through your veil and accessories.

We identify what is needed for the hairstyle to hold.

And we establish anything that needs to happen before the wedding day.

The aim is not to spend the appointment moving from one hairstyle to another until something happens to look right.

It is to use my experience to make the right decisions with you.

By the end of your Looks Design, you should have clarity.

You should know what your hairstyle will be.

You should know how it feels.

You should know how it looks from different angles.

You should know how it works with your veil and accessories.

You should understand how your hair needs to be prepared.

And we should have a clear understanding of how your styling fits into the wedding morning.

What If We Need to Change Something?

You are allowed to change your mind.

Seeing your hairstyle on yourself can tell you things that an inspiration photograph cannot.

Perhaps you want it softer.

Perhaps you prefer a cleaner shape.

Perhaps you want it slightly higher or lower.

Perhaps something you thought you wanted does not feel like you once you see it.

That is useful information.

We can make those decisions during your Looks Design, while there is still time to refine the result.

The wedding morning is not where we need to discover those things.

For Destination Brides

If you are travelling to Scotland for your wedding, your Looks Design can be particularly useful.

You may be planning from another country and coordinating your visit around your venue, photographer, dress fittings and other wedding appointments.

You may not have the opportunity to return to Scotland before the wedding.

That makes the time you have together even more valuable.

The aim is to leave your Looks Design appointment knowing what we are creating and what needs to happen next.
